The terms "Home Care" and "Home Health Care" cover a variety of services that can be provided in a home setting, but they have distinct differences, primarily in the level of medical care offered.
Home Care: Home Care, also referred to as "Non-Medical Home Care" or "Personal Assistance Services," includes services that provide in-home assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, feeding, and toileting, as well as Instrumental ADLs (IADLs) like transportation, shopping, meal preparation, laundry, and medication reminders. These services are designed to help clients maintain an independent and self-sufficient lifestyle in their own homes. Texas Angels Home Care specializes in this type of care, focusing on the client's comfort, safety, and emotional well-being. These services are often private pay, though they may be covered in part by Long Term Care Insurance or certain VA Benefits.
Home Health Care: On the other hand, Home Health Care is a category of medical services which includes Nurse Visits, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Hospice Services. Often referred to as "Licensed Home Health" (LHH), these services are generally covered by Medicare or other health insurance when prescribed by a physician. The care provided through Home Health Care is more clinical and may involve wound care, physical therapy following surgery, or assistance with medications. It is a visit-based service where healthcare professionals come to the client's home to perform a specific medical task, and the visits are typically for a fixed period.
Licensed Home Health aids will not conduct non-medical tasks such as general companionship, running errands, or doing household chores. Those tasks fall under Home Care services.
In summary, Home Care focuses on assisting with daily living activities and general support around the house, while Home
Health Care is centered around medical interventions and therapies provided at home. Together, these services can ensure a comprehensive approach to care, providing both the daily support and the medical treatment necessary for individuals to thrive in their home environment.
Unfortunately, Medicare does not cover the costs of non-medical home care. Medicare only pays for medical services like home health care, which must be ordered by a doctor.
Home care costs vary from $30 to $40 per hour. Some agencies charge higher rates for nights and weekends. Our rates range from $32 to $38 per hour based on level of care. We do not charge higher rates for nights or weekends.
REFERRALS AND ADMISSIONS
The Admissions process at Texas Angels is initiated with the initial intake during a call or a visit from the client or their family. Here's a step-by-step rundown of the process:
Initial Intake: We ask pertinent questions and gather the required information to proceed to the next step. All collected information is kept confidential and in-house. We do not share private data without written consent from the client or their family members.
In-Home Assessment: We schedule an in-home assessment where the client is evaluated, and their living space is surveyed for potential hazards or safety concerns.
